Rothbury Wines

Rothbury wines is one of those special shops; easy to miss and pass by but when you go in you know you have found a real gem. Run by three local people who are true enthusiast for wine, it is a speciality store for all your alcohol needs.

 

Wine buyer John Radgick explains “We don’t try to compete with the supermarkets by offering very cheap wine, instead we beat them hands down on service. We taste to select the all the wines we sell, most of which come from smaller producers who like us are passionate about the wines they produce. We reject many more that we select, so that when you buy from us you know that you will be getting a top notch product which is excellent of its type and which also offers good value. Most of the wines we sell are in the £5 to £10 bracket where there is a lot of competition, so we have to work hard to make sure our range is up there with all the best all the time.”

 

All the wines on the shelves have individual tasting notes and Jon is always happy to give personal advice as well as food and wine matching suggestions.

 

Champagnes are also well stocked, with about twenty different sparklers including some superb value vintage champagne for about the price you would normally pay for non vintage.

 

The range of malt whiskies ecompasses a large number of the well-known distilleries but also a good selection of single cask and cask strength malts bottled by Murray McDavid and Adelphi. For Christmas they also have some amazing packaging with high quality and very attractive wooden presentation cases for one, two or three bottle available at very reasonable prices.
